The winter season is never any fun for someone who enjoys motorsports photography but lives in the Midwest and doesn’t get paid to go elsewhere to shoot. Fortunately Roberts Camera in Indy recently hosted a workshop that involved classroom learning and then in the field shooting of an Indiana Ice hockey game. Good sports action is always a sure fire way to break out of the winter blues.
Marc Lebryk was our teacher for the day and after a long and intensive classroom session we hit the Pan Am Plaza to scout our locations and get ready for the action. Hockey is definitely some of the fastest action I’ve seen in a traditional sports event, it took a little getting used to. Having to shoot through the glass is a bit of an additional challenge. All in all I’m not sure I’d ever pursue hockey seriously, but it was definitely a fun event and a good excuse to drag out the equipment and shoot. A few of my favorites:
