Midwest Drift Union – Round 1 June 13, 2015 – Grissom AFB

After a tumultuous off season it was announced this Spring that Midwest Drift Union would not fade into history, but be brought back for another season of Pro Am drifting in the midwest.  It was a great relief to a lot of competitors who would have been looking at very long travels to continue their pursuit of a Formula D drive in the future.  Hopefully this is not a one time bail out and MDU is here to stay for another 5 years.

MDU Rd1 2015-13Long time racer and tire changer provider Charlie Quatmann went up against Jonathan Nerren in the final.  It was cool to see a long time competitor we know race a great talent that was new to this series.

MDU Rd1 2015-8Austin Matta gained more than his fair share of critics after some promo videos that he was featured in came out.  I’d say he silenced a fair number of critics with a strong performance at this year’s first round of MDU competition.

It was good to see the Tap’n’Scrape crew out.  The loss of Karim at the start of the season to a tragic traffic accident was a real blow to the drift scene.

MDU Rd1 2015-1Chance Crooks also represented with a strong performance, Daniel Stuke’s car had a bit of a Mad Max vibe.
